The camera is as fast as it is small, with a start-up time of just 0.18 seconds. For capturing sports and fast action, the D40 delivers up to a 2.5 fps continuous-firing rate.

Learning to maximize your digital camera doesn’t have to depend on negotiating a thick manual. The D40 offers an Advanced Help Menu, which includes 40 Assist Images—visual examples of the various types of photographs you can create with the camera.

Reviewing images and negotiating the menu screen is made all the easier by the D40’s 2.5-inch color LCD. Capable of 19x magnification in the image preview mode, the screen features easy-to-view menus and large fonts for easy reading.

Featuring Nikon’s advanced 3D Color Matrix II metering system, the D40 also includes center-weighted and spot metering, providing the versatility to produce accurate exposures under virtually any lighting condition.

Weighing just 17 ounces, the D40 is Nikon’s smallest D-SLR. It measures just 5.0x2.5x3.7 inches and is ideal for those who prefer a compact camera that utilizes interchangeable lenses.
